The etymological analysis of the concept of luxury carried out by the authors is justified, which made it possible to identify the semantic, moral and other components of the concept, the contradictions that arise in the course of the reduction of the sign-semantic imperatives of luxury, the peculiarity of worldview attitudes and value-normative guidelines that determine the essential and conceptual attitudes of the phenomenon.
